What I’m Writing
I have multiple projects in my folders, with loads of plans and ideas bouncing around, but what I actually settle to work on just depends on inclination and inspiration. The list below is ordered by how far along each of the projects are.
Denizens of the WIP Graveyard
Complete WIPs – Signs of Life
- Real Meat – Novel. Werewolf Thriller. 100% complete first draft. Status: edits/revisions.
- The Butterfly Bride – Novella. Dark Fantasy. 100% complete first draft. Status: revisions.
- The Curse of Brackenridge Grange – Novella. Gothic Fantasy-Horror. 100% complete first draft. Status: revisions.
- The Reluctant Husband – Audio drama script version of the Weird tale. 100% complete first draft. Status: revisions.
Incomplete WIPs – RIP
- Feed – Novel. Cosmic Horror/Family Drama. 50% complete first draft. Status: percolating.
- Three For A Girl – Novel. AU Carrie/Ricky Contemporary Drama. 25% complete first draft. Status: percolating.
- As Below, So Above – Novella. Dark Alchemical Fantasy/Erotic Psychosexual Drama. 20% complete first draft. Status: percolating.
- A Funny Thing Happened On The Way To The Fortress – Novel/Web Serial. Episodic Comic Medieval Fantasy. 10% complete first draft. Status: percolating.
New Writing:
The Curse of Brackenridge Grange– In a vaguely AU-magical England, a retired army Major – a confirmed bachelor a few weeks shy of 60 – is romantically and relentlessly pursued by a 30-year-old widow (to his great confusion) while dealing with paranormal goings-on at Brackenridge Grange, where they are thrown together at a party. This is a complete 23.3K novella which Ko-Fi members received in beta form as a bonus September reward.
Major Charles Excalibur Thorne is out of the War, out of patriotism, and out of patience. He is, however, in denial of the fact he’s head over heels for twice-widowed ex-frontline nurse, Amelia Aldridge, and intent on escaping the world the War has left behind by withdrawing from town to the countryside.
When he is invited to Brackenridge Grange, a place with an evil reputation, newly bought by Lord and Lady Dunthorpe, he doesn’t want to go. Except Amelia is on the guest list, and he has a feeling of impending danger…
A fantasy-horror Gothic thriller with age gap romance, creepy angel theology, post-magical World War setting, and trauma up the wazoo.
Ko-Fi members also received, as their September reward, a shorter piece around 1K words which forms a potential sequel to this novella. This is from Amelia’s POV, and is a Dark Fantasy ghost story tentatively titled The Abbot’s Treasure.
This is just a short piece of experimental writing that caught my imagination for a time this month. It may not be completed, or go anywhere, but it was some paranormal frippery age-gap romance I enjoyed writing. It’s set in an AU magical world simply because I didn’t want to spoil the flow of the initial brain-dump by obsessing about anachronisms or deciding upon a year and exact real-life location in which to set it. I may go back and make it a straight Historical Fiction piece.

There were a few of these this month, some put on by my publisher and some by me. I got to rank in Amazon’s Top 100 LGBTQ Horror Fiction eBooks for The Day We Ate Grandad, and in Apple’s Top 100 free books for Best Friends Bury Bodies as well!

- Best Friends Bury Bodies was free for the Queer Your eReader event 12th Sept – it ranked in Apple’s Top 100 free books this month.
- The Crows was £1.99 this month
- Thirteenth was 99p this month, then went back to £1.99
- The Day We Ate Grandad was 99p this month (until 30 Sept only). It ranked in Amazon’s Top 100 LGBTQ Horror Fiction eBooks this month.
