INTERVIEW
What got you into horror to begin with – what’s your core Horror memory?
Well, I always watched spooky classic horror movies and the 50s ones, but as for writing it, after I got Shirley Jackson’s The Haunting of Hill House by my parents’ landlady and a section of the book scared me in my 8th grade classroom in a sunny afternoon, I know I wanted to be Shirley Jackson growing up.
Do you have a favourite horror subgenre (or more than one) and if so, what is it? What/Who are your favourite books/films/podcasts/artists/creatives working in that subgenre?
Ghost and werewolf horror, although I have been enjoying science fiction horror a lot lately.
Werewolf:
Wolfen by Whitley StrieberGhosts:
The Haunting of Hill House and Hell HouseFilms:
Legend of Hell House, The Haunting (1963), The Conjuring, The Sixth Sense, Dog Soldiers, American Werewolf in London, The HowlingHorror TV:
Stranger Things, Supernatural, Surreal Estate, Twilight Zone and Outer Limits (the original versions).
What is the horror project of your heart – perhaps something you’ve already got out there, something you’re working on now, or something you’d like to do?
Right now: Nowhere Land, that released October 2025. It actually got me excited to write the next book, make it a series. After I got my next YA dark fantasy novel done as that is supposed to be a trilogy. The series will be The Imprisoned Gods series.
Which 5 horror books can you not stop thinking about, or have influenced you most in some way? (If not books, you can pick 5 films, 5 pieces of art, 5 songs… or mix & match!)
Books:
The Haunting of Hill House, Hell House, Wolfen, Ghost Station by S.A. Barnes, and Lovecraft, Poe and Shelley and Stoker.Movies:
Cat People (both 40s and 80s versions), Dog Soldiers, American Werewolf in London, The Haunting (1963), and Legend of Hell House, and The Conjuring.
If you had to describe the tones and themes of your own work in terms of movies, books, songs, or art, what would you choose and why?
Books, then movies. Although lately I have made playlist for my books00maybe like how movies and TV shows go. And strangely, I always see each book I am about to write like a movie in my head.
Introduce us to something you’ve created, and pitch it to the audience!
Nowhere Land.
For centuries, people walk onto “Nowhere Land,” vanishing. This includes the previous paranormal team the new owner invited to investigate.
But soon, Neri Phelan and the Seekers of the Paranormal World are allowed to investigate it for the truth. Will Neri and her friends along with the owner Parker Burkett be the next sacrifices for what stalks the place?
If Haunting of Hill House had a baby with Stranger Things, Nowhere Land would be the result.
