Serial Novel with Annotations

I wrote an AU novel based on The Crows and annotated each chapter as I went, and did posts explaining my writing process and comparing first drafts to later drafts. If you’d like to check these out, you can do so below. All the posts are now hyperlinked to one another so you should be able to just scroll to the bottom of each post and click through to the next one (or jump back to the previous post).

1. Part 01/30: AU Carrie & Ricky with annotations. Intro to the novel with CWs, annotations on Ch 1 and full text, plus embedded song for vibes: Queen, I Can’t Live With You, is a Ricky/Raven vibes song, as I wanted to set up the differences between why they split up and why Carrie/Phil split up.

2. Part 02/30: AU Carrie & Ricky with annotations. Embedded Song: JP Saxe feat. Julia Michaels, If The World Was Ending is a good Raven/Ricky song but also works for Wes/Ricky a little bit when they were younger. Ricky is definitely not alloromantic: he could be aroace flux, or greyromantic and asexual/greysexual. He grew up under Section 28 and like a lot of us took a while to figure out what the fuck was going on with him. I kept the canon thing of him not really using labels for himself, except in this case when he’s trying to explain himself to other people.

19. Part 19/30: AU Carrie & Ricky with annotations. Embedded Song: Hypocritical by WATERS ~ basically the anthem of Ricky/Raven’s relationship, but I think also there’s a bit of the Raven/Dahlia sisterly dynamic in there as well, and quite a LOT of Wes/Ricky…

20. Part 20/30: AU Carrie & Ricky with annotations. Embedded Song: Humming Bird by Alex Clare, which picks up on something Ricky says about Carrie.

21. Part 21/30: AU Carrie & Ricky with annotations. Embedded Song: Happy by Young Rising Sons – this is both a Carrie and a Ricky song about the difficult, non-linear process of healing and mental health with some hope in it.

22. Part 22/30: AU Carrie & Ricky with annotations. Embedded Song: Alive by Meat Loaf, which Wes wishes Ricky wasn’t at this point.

23. Part 23/30: AU Carrie & Ricky with annotations. Embedded Song: Dirty Sexy Money by The Struts — this is the one I was thinking of when Corrina says ‘dirty sexy money’, and it sort of fits for here too!

Embedded Song: Infinitely Ordinary by The Wrecks – this is for the first part of this section where she’s realising that life with Ricky is actually very mundane, and occasionally she’ll have to react to very ordinary fuck-ups, and that she’s quite good at doing this.

25. Part 25/30: AU Carrie & Ricky with annotations. Embedded Song: Hold Me Down by The Happy Fits – Carrie and Ricky are pretty good for each others’ mental health and grounding each other. It’s Ricky’s turn to do this for her now.

26. Part 26/30: AU Carrie & Ricky with annotations. Embedded Song: Trampoline by The Unlikely Candidates – I like the vibe of this for Ricky who is trying to move past a lot of baggage and enjoy what he’s got.
